How do we empower our children and reduce their vulnerabilities from sexual abuse? The sexual abuse statistics for children are very uncomfortable, yet they are our reality. 1 in 6 boys and 1 in 4 girls will be sexually abused in some form before their 18th birthday. The average age for a child to be abused is 9. We, as a society, have the ability to defeat these statistics by teaching our children what body boundaries are and what consent truly means.

As a Darkness to Light Facilitator, I share the “5 Steps to Protecting Our Children” to learn the facts, minimize opportunity, create the conversation, recognize the signs, and react responsibly and supportively. We can do this as a community, however it takes action. Begin the action by signing up your group or organization for the workshop.
